The Globetrotting Art of BMW

Last week, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Jeff Koons unveiled his BMW art car, an M3 GT2 that he has transformed into what one might assume is a psychedelic candy store entered at warp speed. Koons’s car, adorned with No. 79, will race in next week’s 24 hours of Le Mans and is the latest installment in a 35-year running project of BMW. Previous artists involved in the project have included Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name precisely three. Check out all of BMW’s art cars—including a particularly bad-ass spoiler on Frank Stella’s BMW 3.0 CSL coupé in 1976—here, and see more photos of Koons’s car after the jump.

Meanwhile, as the art and auto worlds fix their collective gaze on France, the German automaker has also been catching eyes in Asia, with the continent’s first interactive 3-D building projection.
